London Southend Airport Announces Taxi Partnership

September 2011

London Southend Airport has selected Andrews Taxis to supply the private hire cars for the regenerated airport's customers and will create around 30 new jobs as a direct result.

The Southend and Rochford-based firm established for over 65 years and operating more than 100 taxis and private hire vehicles beat off stiff competition from other local businesses and large, national companies to win the tender.

The 30 brand new roles will be for drivers, controllers and administrative staff.

Andrews' fleet of vehicles will be composed of new Ford S-Max people carriers and branded 'Andrews Airport Cars'. They will be driven by uniformed staff, trained to high customer service levels. This service will start early in the New Year.

London Southend Airport Managing Director Alastair Welch says: We were very impressed with the tender that Andrews put together and are convinced they will offer an excellent service to our staff and visitors. For us, it was incredibly important to use a local business rather than resort to the tried and tested route of using national suppliers for this service in order to again demonstrate our commitment to helping the local economy.

Andrews Taxis Managing Director John Watson is justifiably pleased: We are delighted to partnering London Southend Airport in this exciting new venture, and we are particularly proud that our tender has withstood the test of all the national operators and will ultimately bring new jobs and additional prosperity to the local business community.
