First direct flights to sun destinations commence at Waterford Airport

Irish tour operators Slatterys Sun have commenced the first direct return flights from Waterford to the sun destinations of Malaga, Spain; Bordeaux, France and Faro, Portugal.

The first direct flight out of Waterford was fully booked and took passengers to Faro on Sunday afternoon (July 1) while a group of returning holidaymakers flew directly to Waterford from Malaga on Saturday night (June 30). There was additional local interest as co-pilot Capt Donal O’Keeffe is from Waterford.

Flights from Waterford to the holiday destinations on a BAE146 four-engine jet will initially run until the end of September.

Flights to Malaga leave Waterford on Tuesdays and Saturdays; Faro flights depart on Wednesdays and Sundays while flights to Bordeaux operate on Fridays and Mondays.

As well as flight-only options, Slatterys are offering inclusive packages featuring flights and accommodation in the holiday destinations.

The summer sun flights bring to seven the number of UK and European destinations that can be accessed with direct flights from Waterford.

The new direct routes introduced this weekend are in addition to expanding Aer Arann services.

A new Waterford-Birmingham service operates six times per week (Sunday-Friday) while Waterford-Manchester has the same frequency. Flights to/from London Luton continue to operate twice daily at business-friendly times while additional service frequency is planned on selected days during the peak holiday months of July and August. Frequent seasonal services to Lorient in France also resumed in May.

Bookings for the Malaga, Bordeaux and Faro services from Waterford can be made online at www.slatterys.com, through your travel agent or by calling 1890 200 425.
